We all have an idea of what genealogy is, but when I tell someone I’m a soul-centered genealogist, the second most-asked question I get is: What does “soul-centered’ mean? This article provides the answer and shares the story of how Soul Centered Genealogy has come to be.
The Birth of Soul Centered Genealogy
I’d been practicing genealogy for over 12 years before I began my spiritual practice in 2011.
More often than not, my Soul Reading sessions are with people I’ve never met and know nothing about. We mostly meet by phone, so I usually don’t even know what they look like. I prefer to serve in this way as there’s no need to know anything about a personality to know a Soul – hence the name of my business: Knowing Soul.
A Soul-Centered Respite from Facades
As most of us are living (anxiously) in accordance with labels, roles, and outer appearances, the lack of focus on physical sight in Soul Readings opens to a pure connection with the real human experience beneath social masks. Honoring that sacred space of human experience, if only for an hour, provides extraordinary release and relief for those who are ready for it.
Regardless of how we present to our World, how we feel in our skin when no one’s looking or listening is what we live – our true life story. How we experience life has everything to do with perceptions of and experiences with our families of origin, the families we create, and the genetic matter we are.
We’re All Multisensory Beings
Contrary to popular belief, there’s no magic to intuition. Whether or not you’re aware, you naturally sense other people’s (and their relatives’) stories too. When you interact with another, you’re hanging out with generations of beliefs, wisdom, and emotionalities that are being expressed through genes. You’re also witnessing their individual expression (evolution) of those genes.
Merging Intuition with Genealogy
Being an intuitive genealogist, it’s quite natural for me to tap into family dynamics and emotional lineages during Soul Readings. A desire to evolve repeating challenges, usually in relationships, often brings forth life experiences of relatives in my sessions.
Over and over I find questions about the health of a relationship, finances, or career (the top 3 focuses of thought) lead me to the effects of family relationships. Likewise, the realization that we’re each naturally resolving challenges our ancestors didn’t master is often brought to light in Soul Readings.
How Did You Know That?
How could someone you’ve never met, who knows nothing about you tap into your Grandmother’s experiences of life? Emotional inheritances and genetic memory.
The social facades we nurture mean nothing. We each exude (and experience) our truth, which is rooted in familial legacies, from moment-to-moment. Being multisensory beings, we intuitively know when what’s going on within someone isn’t aligned with what they’re presenting. Yet we collectively pretend to fool the world with carefully crafted projections of our personalities.
The liberation and relief that arises with an intimate awareness of Self is the greatest gift I offer Soul Readings. Cutting through facades, assumptions and faded memories of our ancestors with genealogical research is the greatest gift of Soul Centered Genealogy.
The Grand Ephiphany that Inspired Soul Centered Genealogy
I embarked on a genetic genealogical research journey in 2018 that revealed the identity of my paternal Grandfather and introduced me to a very large and loving family (an article about how I did this will be posted soon).
This was the experience that inspired me to officially establish Soul Centered Genealogy services.
Finding my family and the generational healing that ensued was life-changing. Supporting others through the sacred journey of getting to know their ancestors and the ways they live on through us became something I absolutely had to do.
One day it suddenly hit me – like a lightning bolt: Why am I not offering genealogical services through Knowing Soul? Those who know me wondered the same thing.
A Match Made in Heaven
A few decades of genealogy research experience, coupled with my ongoing practice of energetic genealogy brought the term Soul Centered Genealogy to mind.
I just needed to establish the foundation to offer genealogical research services. In January 2019, I began the development of a vision, a business plan, the technical infrastructure (which you’re on right now), and the administrative service-delivery functions required to bring Soul Centered Genealogy to life.
Finally, as I presently write these words, the foundation is complete.
How Does Soul Centered Genealogy Work?
First Things First: Defining the Scope of Research
First and foremost, traditional genealogy and genetic genealogy form the foundation of my genealogy practice.
The image below illustrates 126 of your closest ancestors, most of whom have left a paper trail on this Earth that can be researched.
As you can imagine, any one of us could spend a lifetime solely researching our family lines! This is why every genealogy project begins with a free project consultation to clearly define a scope of research.
The Research Process
As I build upon oral histories passed down over time with thorough research of historical artifacts and DNA evidence, I’ll document a (well-sourced) view of your ancestors’ life experiences.
While the research process breeds the questions that lead to the answers about the wheres and whens of our relatives’ lives, soul-centered questions take us more deeply into their actual human experiences. This depth of query about who our ancestors were, how they perceived our world, and how being human felt to them guides the research into previously unthought-of sources.
Integrating Earthly Facts with the Human Experience

I expand upon documented earthly facts through offline research and thoughtful interviews of people connected to your research subjects.
The true stories of your people are in memories, unfound photographs, and in documents tucked away in drawers, attics, and basements. I’m passionate about discovering what lives in the hearts and minds of those who have had direct experience with your relatives.
My intuitive abilities provide a broader and deeper exploration of how you’ve come to be, and the familial legacies you’re evolving in this lifetime.
The life experiences of your ancestors’ altered the genetic code you carry today. Their knowledge and beliefs have contributed to your (and your parent’s) worldview. You will personally realize increased self-awareness throughout our genealogical engagement as we uncover clues about who your people were and how they navigated their human journey.
